SMAC SC deputy captain named in Ghana U-23 25-man squad for U23 AFCON Qualifiers.
SMAC Sporting Club is delighted to announce that our sensational defender, Anderstain Akwasi Owusu, has received a call-up to the Ghana U-23 national team, the Black Meteors.
The 18-year-old center-back has been included in the 25-man squad named by Head Coach Desmond Ofei for the upcoming TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, following a sterling impression during his initial assessment with the team in August 2026.
Anderstain proved his qualities are unique, convincing the technical team that he can be a great addition to the squad as Ghana begins its quest for qualification.
Ghana received a bye into the second qualifying round and will face the winner of the first-round tie between Togo and Libya. The first leg is scheduled for November 9, 2026, with the return leg set for November 17, 2026.
A product of Livingstone United Football Club, Anderstain joined Namoro Football Club before making the move to SMAC Sporting Club in August 2024. His progress since joining has been massive.
As deputy captain, he was an integral part of the SMAC SC side that were crowned champions of the 2025/2026 Accra East District Football Association Third Division League Zone 4. He also played a pivotal role in helping the team reach the Middle League final, where we narrowly lost to Teshie FA on penalty shootouts.
Everyone at SMAC SC congratulates Anderstain on this well-deserved call-up. His hard work, discipline, and leadership have been exemplary, and we are immensely proud to see him represent the club at the national level.
We wish him every success with the Black Meteors!
